HOUNDS FINISH SPRING, PREPARE FOR SUMMER 7'S
The Cincinnati Wolfhounds Rugby Club welcomes players of all ages and skill levels to Summer touch and Summer 7s. Come out for touch sessions each Thursday at 6 p.m. at Brimelow Fields. The 7s schedule is posted for those interested in competing in the fast-paced, high-energy complement to Fall and Spring 15s. The 7s schedule includes a number of solid road-trip opportunities, as well as the Wolfhounds' own Cin City 7s tournament.
The 'Hounds look to build off their Spring season through the Summer and into the Fall's all-important League competition, which will determine eligibility for the 2009 USA Rugby Playoffs.
Highlights of the 'Hounds Spring included a 16-man trip to Baltimore, where Cincinnati muscled a 20-19 victory against playoff contender Baltimore-Chesapeake. Fullback Casey Schneiber caught a kick mid-air and calmly slotted a 40-meter drop goal in the final minute of play to lift the 'Hounds to the dramatic win.
Other victories saw Cincinnati down Huntington and Indianapolis. A notable loss in Detroit has the 'Hounds hoping that the Tradesmen move up to Division I for a Midwest League re-match opportunity. While the Wolfhounds did not compete for the Championship in Savannah's St. Patty's Day Tournament, the Greyhounds old boys team made the club proud, winning their division in good form.
About the Wolfhounds:
The
Wolfhounds are proudly sponsored by ProSource, Beacon Orthopaedic, Oxford Phyiscal Therapy and the Mt. Adams Pavilion. Originally, the Wolfhounds were founded in 1974
with a core of college alumni players
from the University of Cincinnati,
Xavier University, and Miami (Ohio)
University. Since its founding,
the team has enjoyed great success,
being in the Mid-America Championships
17 times, winning the Ohio XVs more
than a dozen times, and appearing
in the Men's National Club Championships
Sweet 16 in 1996, 1999, 2002 and the Elite 8 in 2005.
The
Cincinnati Wolfhounds pride themselves
on excellent Rugby fundamentals,
high overall fitness, mental and
physical stamina, and teamwork.
These essentials form the basic
elements for Wolfhound coaching
techniques. As a result, Wolfhound
coaching has produced U.S. Eagles,
North American 4, Junior Eagles, Midwest Territory
players, and Ohio Select Side players. Luke Gross, the most capped
Eagle ever, began as a Wolfhound.
